APPI Walking Tour - Calgary Culture + Entertainment District

Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) and the Calgary Stampede host this guided walking tour of The Culture + Entertainment District (The C+E) for members of the Alberta Professional Planners Institute. The C+E, guided by the Rivers District Master Plan, is envisioned as a vibrant downtown community with 8,000 new residents and 4M sq. ft. of mixed-use residential and commercial development. This tour will explore the master plan vision and highlight some of the key projects anchoring the vision, including Pixel Park, the 17 Ave S.E. extension and Victoria Park/Stampede Station rebuild project, and the recently completed BMO Centre expansion.


Tour Guides and Presenters:

Kelly Coles, Vice President, Building & Infrastructure, CMLC

In her role as Vice President of Building & Infrastructure, Kelly is leading the delivery of the master plan vision for East Village and The Culture + Entertainment District through her oversight of key city-building infrastructure and vertical building projects, including the BMO Centre Expansion, 17th Avenue S.E. Extension & Victoria Park/Stampede Station Rebuild, Stampede Trail, and the Arts Commons and Olympic Plaza Transformation projects.

Kelly’s wealth of multidisciplinary experience includes design, construction and project management. Prior to joining CMLC, Kelly led the design team at the City of Calgary and was responsible for the delivery of capital projects within the City’s Facility Management Department. Before joining the public sector, Kelly gained experience as a leader and practicing designer at architectural and interior design firms.

Driven by a passion for life-long learning and city-building, Kelly holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Victoria, a Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Architecture, a Diploma in Architectural

Kerri Souriol, Director, Park Development, Calgary Stampede

Kerri is the Director, Park Development for the Calgary Stampede. Joining in 2018, she is responsible for providing long-term strategic oversight, as well as tactical leadership to build out and execute on the Calgary Stampede’s Masterplan within the Rivers District Masterplan. She currently oversees multiple design and construction projects on Stampede Park, including the $500 million dollar expansion to the BMO Convention Centre and the Sam Centre, both scheduled to be complete in 2024.

Kerri is a registered Architect with the AAA and a PMP. She previously worked in architectural practice before transitioning to a project management role at the City of Calgary. This change truly ignited her passion for using her architectural background on the Owner’s side of the table, and she brings her expertise to the integrated project teams engaged by Stampede to deliver projects.
